I have to thank Dave Broom for giving me a chance to taste this Japanese masterpiece. It was distilled in 1991, and aged in a sherry cask. However, it doesn’t have the usual character of a sherry cask — the nose is coal smoke and leather, and the taste is tarry, rich, and spicy with a smokiness that fades to reveal more traditional dried fruits. The finish is one of the longest I’ve ever had…lasted for minutes! An amazing whisky!
