Producing WhiskyCast has given me the opportunity to taste some really amazing whiskies, and I’m pleased to share my tasting notes with you here. You can search my entire database of tasting notes from this page, and I hope you’ll find it useful.
This travel retail exclusive has some of the characteristics of Johnnie Walker Green Label, in that they’re both blended malts (with no grain used in the blend). However, it’s closer in aroma and flavor to Johnnie Walker Double Black with a much higher percentage of smoky island malts (think Caol Ila, Talisker, etc.) than Green Label.
The nose is smoky and slightly medicinal with a great phenolic peatiness and notes of heather, grilled pineapple, vanilla, and a touch of oak. The taste is smoky, thick, and oily with a fruity undertone from notes of red apples and peaches. Caramel candy, heather, and oak round out the complexity. The finish is long and smoky with a hint of heather. (May, 2017)
