Photo ©2018, Mark Gillespie/Cask Strength Media. The Alumni Series honors Canada’s hockey legacy with unique whiskies created by master blender Dr. Don Livermore and several retired NHL legends, with part of the proceeds from each bottle going to the NHL Alumni Association to help retired players. Livermore created this 10-year-old 100% corn whisky with Hockey Hall of Famer Guy Lafleur using a combination of ex-Bourbon, rum, and Speyside Scotch Whisky barrels. The nose has notes of brown sugar, molasses, honey, toffee, and a hint of fudge. The taste starts off sweet at first with a gentle pepperiness that builds up slowly, but there’s a disconnect between the spice and the sweeter notes that’s like drinking two different whiskies. The finish is medium-length with a slight pepperiness. (December, 2018)
