House of Hazelwood “The Unknown”

House of Hazelwood

Country: Scotland

Region:

Type: Blended Scotch

Bottler: House of Hazelwood

ABV: 43.3%

Score: 96 Points

The component whiskies that make up this 44-year-old House of Hazelwood blend are known only to the Whisky Gods, but we do know that they were distilled in 1978 and blended together in 1989 to spend the next 33 years in a refill butt cask. The nose is rich with wood spices, a hint of molasses, and brown sugar. The taste balances candied fruits and brown sugar at first, with wild spices coming out as the sweetness turns to honey and dried fruits in the background. The finish has lingering wood spices, honey, and dried fruits for a delightfully complex dram. (July, 2023)
