Hinch Peated Single Malt. Image courtesy Hinch Whiskey Company. This peated Irish whiskey comes from an undisclosed distillery in Ireland’s County Louth while Hinch’s own distillery in Northern Ireland has just started laying down its first casks of whiskey. The nose has a good peatiness along with hints of lemon pepper, dried grass, toasted caramel, vanilla, and a touch of tropical fruits. The taste has a good balance of tartness and spice at first, followed by a burst of peat smoke along with honey, vanilla, and licorice. The finish has lingering spices, a hint of citrusy tartness, and a gentle layer of peat smoke. (November, 2020)
