Highland Park Twisted Tattoo. Image courtesy Highland Park. This is Highland Park’s first use of Rioja wine casks from Spain, and blend 16-year-old whisky matured in 153 Rioja casks with 16-year-old whisky from 70 first-fill ex-Bourbon barrels. The nose has red apples, peaches, vanilla, a hint of heathery peat smoke, roasted peanuts, and a touch of cedar shavings. The taste starts off creamy with a touch of vanilla beans at first, followed by a nice spiciness and soft peatiness along with touches of tree fruits. The finish is long with lingering spices, a touch of peat smoke, and hints of dried fruits. Nice! (November, 2019)
