High West's 2017 A Midwinter Night's Dram." Image courtesy High West Distillery. As with previous editions, this year’s “A Midwinter Night’s Dram” takes High West’s regular Rendezvous Rye and finishes it in French Oak port barrels. The nose has good rye spices with touches of clove, allspice, and ginger, along with subtle hints of red grapes and fresh berries. The taste is dry with good clove, allspice, and ginger spices balanced well by notes of figs and plums. The finish is long with subtle spices and hints of red grapes and plums. Nice balance and complexity. (December, 2017)
