Gordon & MacPhail Inverleven 1979. Image courtesy The Whisky Exchange/Speciality Drinks Ltd.Inverleven Distillery in Scotland’s Lowlands is long-gone, though its old stills are being used today at Ireland’s Waterford Distillery. This bottling comes from Gordon & MacPhail’s Distillery Labels series of 1994 releases, and the nose has notes of honeycomb, soft spices, barley sugar, and linseed oil. The taste has a good balance of tropical fruits and spicy notes of ground peppercorns, allspice, and ginger root, while touches of honeycomb and bitter lemon add complexity in the background. The finish is long with soft spices and a subtle sweetness. (November, 2018)
