One of the four Private Collection Ultra releases in late 2014 to mark the transition between the third and fourth generations of Urquhart family members at Gordon & MacPhail. This 62-year-old first-fill ex-Sherry butt was selected by retired Managing Director Ian Urquhart, his son Neil (the company’s current Director of Logistics and Facilities), and daughter Jenny Houldsworth, who serves as a non-executive director on the G&M board. Only 69 bottles were produced.
The nose is vibrant, light, and fruity with notes of Christmas cake, pears, peaches, berries, dark chocolate, and just a hint of oak. The taste has notes of orange peel, dark chocolate, molasses, raisins, and a hint of straw with excellent balance. The finish is fruity, vibrant, and amazingly long, and just a few drops of water will increase the fruity tartness.
An amazing whisky, and even better than the 70-year-old Glenlivet single cask Gordon & MacPhail released in 2011! (October, 2014)
