Glenmorangie Spios. Image courtesy Glenmorangie. Spios is the 2018 release in Glenmorangie’s Private Edition series of annual releases. The name comes from the Scots Gaelic word for “spice,” and appropriately, is matured in ex-Rye Whiskey barrels from Kentucky. The nose has notes of black cherries, clove, nutmeg, freshly-cut grass clippings, and herbal touches of thyme and basil. The taste is thick and spicy with clove, cinnamon, and nutmeg spices complemented nicely by a sweet touch of butter cream cake frosting. The finish is long with gently fading spices, a touch of toffee, and a hint of candied orange slices. Excellent! (February, 2013)
