Producing WhiskyCast has given me the opportunity to taste some really amazing whiskies, and I’m pleased to share my tasting notes with you here. You can search my entire database of tasting notes from this page, and I hope you’ll find it useful.
The 2021 edition includes something we haven’t seen in many years for this annual release: some of the “O” yeast variation from Four Roses. It’s usually seen in much younger form in the standard Four Roses Bourbon, but Master Distiller Brent Elliott selected a batch of 14-year-old OBSQ-recipe Bourbon to add some complexity to the other 12 and 16-year-old whiskies in this edition. The nose has notes of berry cobbler, toasted oak, dried flowers, muted spices, brown sugar, and caramel. The taste is thick and intense with baking spices, caramel, honey, a hint of fresh berries, touches of tree fruits, and orange peel. Adding water opens up more fruity and floral character with a hint of spearmint. The finish is long and oaky with touches of candied orange slices, dark chocolate, fresh berries, and vanilla. Excellent! (August, 2021)
