Four Roses 2017 Limited Edition 50th Anniversary Small Batch. Image courtesy Four Roses. This special Bourbon honors longtime Four Roses distillery manager and historian Al Young on his 50th anniversary at the distillery, and even revives the old 1967-era bottle design and label for the occasion. It’s made from four different Four Roses recipes, and for the diehard Four Roses fans: 23-year-old OBSV, 15-year-old OBSK, 13-year-old OESV, and 12-year-old OBSF.

The nose is aromatic with notes of caramel candy, honey, muted spices, hints of charred oak, peach pie, and dried fruits. The taste has a good balance of spices and fruits, with clove, a hint of black pepper, peaches, apricot jam, a touch of fig cookies, oak, and honey. The finish is lingering, subtle, and slightly dry with a touch of spearmint, apricot jam, and a soft touch of clove. It’s a whisky worthy of Al Young’s name! (June, 2017)
