Douglas Laing & Co. Xtra Old Particular Laphroaig 1987 Single Cask. Image courtesy Douglas Laing & Co. This is a 30-year-old Laphroaig single cask bottled by Douglas Laing & Co. in 2017 for its Xtra Old Particular range of vintage Scotch whiskies, and the nose is clearly vintage Laphroaig: phenolic and medicinal with the aroma of Band-Aids and Bacitracin ointment, along with heather, honey, driftwood smoke and a hint of brine. The taste reminds me of sweet and smoky barbecue sauce with a great peaty smokiness balanced by honey, vanilla, and a touch of brine. The finish is classic Laphroaig as well – long and smoky! Excellent! (March, 2018)
