Dalwhinnie Winter's Gold. Image courtesy Diageo. This single malt is made from spirit distilled during the winter months at Dalwhinnie, which gets some of Scotland’s coldest weather because of its location in the mountains of Cairngorms National Park. As a result, there’s less contact between the copper and the spirit as it condenses off the still – which leads to a light, fruity style of whisky after maturation.

The nose is gentle with dried flowers, vanilla, honey, and apricot notes. The taste is clean, crisp, and slightly tart with a touch of sawdust and hints of apricots and peaches in the background. The finish is long with a hint of wood smoke and a touch of tree fruits. Excellent! (September, 2015)
