Dalwhinnie 30 Years Old 2020 Special Release. Image courtesy Diageo. This Highland single malt in Diageo’s 2020 Special Releases series was matured in refill American Oak hogshead casks, and the nose has hints of heather, dried flower, honey throat lozenges, and a touch of pencil shavings. The taste is thick, chewy, and slightly astringent with a subtle tartness, hints of baking spices, and touches of honey and butterscotch in the background. Adding a few drops of water rounds out the whisky’s flavor without drowning out the subtle spices. The finish is long and warm with a lingering spiciness. (October, 2020)
