Crouch Distilling Single Malt Straight Rye Whiskey
Country: USA
Region: South Carolina
Type: Single Malt Rye Whiskey
Bottler: Distiller
ABV: 46%
Score: 91 Points
Technically, Scotland is the only place where a distiller must use 100% malted barley in a “single malt” whisky. The husband-and-wife team of Phil and Jessica Crouch decided to break with tradition and make their South Carolina single malt with 100% malted rye instead.
The nose has good baking spices, brown sugar, and a touch of oak. The taste has notes of black cherries, tree fruits, and a nice balance of subtle spices with vanilla and brown sugar in the background. The finish is long, gentle, and well-balanced. A nice surprise and an excellent whiskey. (October, 2018)
