Bottler: Compass Box

ABV: 49%

Score: 92 Points

Compass Box's The Circus. Image courtesy Compass Box. There’s no clowning around with this limited-edition whisky from Compass Box. It’s a cousin to the 2014 release of “The General” with a similar back story: the whisky comes from batches of Scotch malt and grain whiskies that had been blended years ago and put back into ex-Sherry butts.

The nose has notes of dried apricots, banana chips, dates, hazelnut, roasted almonds, and brown sugar. The taste is fruity with notes of sultanas, apricots, bananas, clove, cardamom, and hazelnut. The finish is long with a good balance of spices and fruity tartness emphasized by sultanas and apricots. Excellent! (June, 2016)
