Catoctin Creek Roundstone Rye Cask Proof Hickory Finish
This is a single barrel release available at the distillery in Virginia and in the Washington, DC area, in which Catoctin Creek’s regular Roundstone Rye Cask Proof whiskey is finished in a hickory syrup cask. The nose has a good balance of oak and hickory notes with a tangy touch of barbecue sauce, muted spices, and hints of brown sugar and honey. The taste is thick with an intense spiciness, as black pepper and cinnamon notes slowly fade to reveal sweeter notes of honey, molasses, a hint of butterscotch candies, and a touch of anise leading into the finish. The anise and butterscotch notes dominate the finish, along with muted spices and a hint of linseed oil. (July, 2018)
