Bruichladdich-Rare Cask Series 1985/32 Bourbon Cask Edition. Image courtesy Bruichladdich. This whisky comes from the final casks of 1985 Bruichladdich that had been filled into well-used third-fill Bourbon barrels. In 2012, Jim McEwan refilled them into fresh Bourbon casks for a final five years of maturation. The nose is rich and aromatic with notes of warm honey, caramel candy, soft oak, heather, dried flowers, and muted spices. The taste has a nice balance between dark chocolate and rich spicy notes of clove, cardamom, and white pepper, while vanilla and a hint of orange peel add complexity in the background. The long finish has a good balance of cocoa, dark fruits, lingering spices, and a touch of caramel candy. Excellent! (December, 2020)
