Bruichladdich Octomore 10.4. Image courtesy Bruichladdich. This whisky comes from 100% Scottish Concerto barley peated to 88 parts per million of phenols, and is matured in virgin French Oak casks to a dark, coppery color. The nose is fruity with more subtle smokiness than the other Octomore 10 whiskies, and has touches of toasted caramel, honey, and charred oak. The taste is very spicy, fiery, and peaty with intense smokiness, black pepper, cinnamon, peaches, red apples, and touches of caramel and honey in the background. The finish is long, spicy, woody, and peaty with hints of fruit in the background. Now for the kicker – it’s only three years old, but it sure doesn’t taste like the typical three-year-old single malt! (October, 2019)
