Bruichladdich’s Jim McEwan never tells anyone what he’s doing with the Black Art whiskies, but we know this one came from five different casks with at least four different styles of maturation. It’s an amazingly complex whisky, with a nose of red grapes, honey, vanilla, hazelnut, and allspice. The taste has a Bordeaux wine-like earthy tartness with tannins, raspberries, plums, orange peel, and brandy notes. The finish lingers like a dying fire with the slight tartness of fresh raspberries.
