Bruichladdich Black Art 8.1. Image courtesy Bruichladdich. This 26-year-old Islay single malt continues the Black Art tradition of not disclosing anything about the types of casks Adam Hannett selected. All we know is that they were originally laid down in 1994, and likely would be among the final casks filled before Whyte & Mackay mothballed the distillery early that year. The nose has a complex balance of citrus fruits, apricots, hazelnuts, and dried flowers. The taste is equally complex and well-balanced with a mix of woody spices, tree fruits, vanilla, and a hint of nuttiness. The finish is very long and sweet with touches of dried fruits, honey, nuts, and a touch of oak. Amazing! (November, 2020)
