Blue Run Bourbon. Image courtesy Blue Run Spirits. This 13-year-old Bourbon was selected by Jim Rutledge for Blue Run’s debut release in the fall of 2020, and comes from an undisclosed Kentucky distillery. The nose is oaky and tannic with notes of tobacco, leather, cocoa beans, dark chocolate, and black cherries. The taste starts off with brown sugar sweetness, followed by an explosion of baking spices on the palate along with oak tannins, toasted caramel, and cinnamon roll frosting. Adding a few drops of water opens up touches of tree fruits and smooths out the spices slightly. The finish is long, dry, and fades away slowly with gentle spices, baked apples, and black cherries. Wow! (November, 2020)
