Blind Seal Rye Moonshine. Photo ©2020, Mark Gillespie/CaskStrength Media.Moonshine isn’t usually associated with Swedish whiskies, but Blind Seal Distillery is using it to describe their one-year-old rye spirit since European laws require a minimum of three years’ maturation for whiskies. The nose has notes of baking spices, freshly baked rye bread, honey, vanilla, and lightly roasted coffee beans. The taste is spicy and young, but shows a nice balance of baking spices, molasses cookies, and hints of oak and honey. The finish is long and slightly astringent with subtle spices, molasses cookies, and a touch of caramel candy. Interesting and worth watching for the future! (February, 2020)
