Producing WhiskyCast has given me the opportunity to taste some really amazing whiskies, and I’m pleased to share my tasting notes with you here. You can search my entire database of tasting notes from this page, and I hope you’ll find it useful.
This 29-year-old single cask blended malt was labeled “Burnside” on the cask, and that’s a code in the blending community meaning a cask of Balvenie single malt that’s been “teaspooned” with a little bit of Glenfiddich before leaving the distillery – so that no one can bottle it later as a single malt. It was distilled in 1988 and bottled in 2018 just a few months shy of 30 years later, and the nose has notes of baked apples, butterscotch, honey, dried fruits, and touches of sandalwood and oak. The taste has a fruity tartness balanced by spicy notes of clove, cardamom, tree fruits and a touch of oak. The finish is long, well-balanced, and fruity with lingering spices. (June, 2020)
