Benromach is one of the few distilleries in Scotland to use Sassicaia wine casks from Tuscany, and the 2007 edition spent 24 months in the Italian casks after first being matured in first-fill ex-Bourbon barrels. The nose has notes of blackberry jam, plums, raisins, figs, red grapes, oak, and muted spices. The taste is spicier than the nose would indicate, with nutmeg and ginger at first followed by a mild touch of clove. Plums, blackberry jam, raisins, and a hint of licorice round out the palate, and the finish lingers nicely with notes of plums, berries, and licorice. (August, 2016)
