Tasting Notes

BenRiach The Thirty

Country: Scotland
Region: Speyside
Type: Single Malt
Bottler: Distiller
ABV: 46%
Score: 95 Points
This is BenRiach’s peated single malt matured in a combination of virgin oak, ex-Bourbon, Sherry, and Port wine casks, and is a very complex and inviting whisky. The nose is subtle, yet complex with gentle aromas of dried fruits, a hint of smoke, orange marmalade, sawdust, and vanilla. The taste starts off with notes of dried apricots, apples, and cherries with a hint of white pepper in the background…then develops touches of orange marmalade, smoke, soft oak, and brown sugar. Adding water will bring out the fruitiness sooner while delaying the arrival of the smokiness. The finish is long, rich, and very well-balanced with subtle spices, dried fruits, and a smoky hint of oak. Wow! (February, 2021)
