Beinn Dubh Single Malt Scotch Whisky. Image courtesy Speyside Distillers. This single malt from Scotland’s Speyside Distillery gets its name from the Gaelic translation of “Black Mountain,” and maturation in charred ex-Port wine pipes gives it a dark ruby-red color. The nose has notes of blackberries, dark chocolate, plums, raisins, and a touch of brandy. The taste reminds me of blackberry preserves, along with hints of fudge, plums, raisins, and a hint of licorice that develops slowly. That licorice note lasts through the finish, along with lingering touches of blackberry preserves, plums, and raisins. Overall, a dark, chewy, and complex whisky. (April, 2018)
