Balcones Texas Rye 100 Proof
Country: USA
Region: Texas
Type: Rye Whiskey
Bottler: Distiller
ABV: 50%
Score: 89 Points
This is a 15-month-old Rye whisky distilled from four different types of grain: 85% Texas-grown Elbon Rye (“noble” spelled backwards), along with caramel, chocolate, and toasted rye that adds just the right amount of flavor and complexity to the spirit. The nose reminds me of toasted bread with honey, along with subtle spices and a hint of molasses in the background. The taste is spicy and powerful with crème brûlée, caramel apples, clove, and honey notes. The clove fades away quickly, though, leaving behind the sweeter notes with a hint of milk chocolate. The finish is long and sweet. Overall, a very nice, complex whisky. (March, 2018)
