Balcones Lineage Texas Single Malt Whisky. Image courtesy Balcones Distilling. This single malt from Balcones is made with a unique combination of malted barley – Golden Promise imported from Scotland and barley grown in the High Plains of Texas, and is matured in a combination of new and used barrels for at least three years. The two strains of barley give Lineage an aroma of peaches and red apples on the nose, along with banana cream, soft spices, red grapes, and a hint of honey. The taste has good spices balanced by touches of oak, honey, red grapes, toasted caramel, and a hint of hazelnut. The finish has a lingering hint of cinnamon along with a slightly herbal character and hints of dried fruits and honey. Very nice! (July, 2020)
