Balcones Fr.Oak Texas Single Malt. Image courtesy Balcones Distilling. The 2018 edition of this annual release from Balcones was matured for 30 months in first-fill French Oak casks and bottled at cask strength. The nose has notes of figs, plums, Christmas cake, muted spices, mild oak tannins, and a hint of brandy. The taste has an intense spiciness balanced nicely by fruity notes, with clove and allspice complementing plums, raisins, and a hint of dates while a slight touch of oak tannins adds balance in the background. The finish is long and slightly astringent, with touches of fruit and spices. Very nice! (June, 2018)
