This whisky from Balcones Distillery in Waco, Texas was named “World’s Best American Whiskey” in Whisky Magazine’s 2014 World Whiskies Awards.
The nose has notes of sandalwood, linseed oil, and a hint of turpentine with soft clove and a touch of nuttiness. The taste is powerful and intense with black pepper, chili powder, cilantro, and touches of honey, vanilla, and coconut that come out as the spices fade. The finish is dry with lingering spices and a soft honey sweetness. (January, 2014)
