Aureum 1865 Grave Digger Edition. Image courtesy The Whisky Exchange.Metallica, Slipknot, the Flaming Lips, and other bands haven’t completely cornered the market on rock and whiskey tie-ups. Germany’s Ziegler Distillery produced this bottling in its Aureum 1865 series of single malts in a partnership with the German band Grave Digger, complete with a coffin-shaped box. This six-year-old whisky has a nice, malty nose with notes of honey, vanilla, buttered popcorn, and a hint of lemon pepper spice. The taste starts off malty at first with a good, thick mouthfeel and a bit of barley sugar, followed by a slowly building note of lemon pepper spice and touches of honey, vanilla, and butterscotch in the background. The spices linger on the dry, long finish with subtle hints of honey and lemon zest underneath. (November, 2019)
