Arran Smugglers Series Vol. 3 "The Exciseman." Image courtesy Isle of Arran Whisky. This 2017 release was the final chapter in Arran’s Smugglers Series trilogy of single malts, and was matured using Madeira wine casks and quarter-size ex-Bourbon casks. The nose is malty and aromatic with notes of vanilla, honey, brown sugar, and a hint of caramel candy. The taste is powerful, with honey and licorice notes on top of clove and allspice underneath, while vanilla, oak, and brown sugar add balance and complexity. The finish is long, gentle, and slightly astringent. Excellent! (November, 2019)
