Country: Scotland

Region: Islay

Type: Single Malt

Bottler: Distiller

ABV: 46%

Score: 92 Points

This is Ardbeg’s 2021 Islay Festival release, and these tasting notes are for the retail “Ardbeg Day” release at 46% ABV (there was a bottling exclusively for Ardbeg Committee members released at 51.7% ABV). The nose is smoky and medicinal with a hint of creosote and touches of honey and dried flowers in the background. The taste combines a nice peatiness with a touch of grilled meat at first, followed by a subtle peppery touch that comes alive slowly. Hints of honey, vanilla, and dried flowers add balance and complexity in the background. The finish is long and gentle with a muted smokiness. It’s not the fire-breathing dragon the name indicates, but a good Ardbeg nonetheless. (May, 2021)
