Alberta Premium Cask Strength. Image courtesy Beam Suntory. This whisky is one I’ve been wanting to see for years, and Beam Suntory finally made it happen in 2019. It’s a 100% Rye whisky from Alberta Distillers in Calgary, and the nose has a hint of toffee along with subtle spices, honey, and touches of vanilla and oak. The taste is thick and mouth-puckering at first, then the spices explode in your mouth with clove, cinnamon, and white pepper while hints of caramel, vanilla, and butterscotch provide complexity in the background. The finish is long and dry with lingering spices and hints of honey and caramel. Excellent! (November, 2019)
