Aberlour a'Bunadh Millennium Edition. Image courtesy Whisky Auctioneer. This 12-year-old single malt is extremely rare, and was released in 1999 to celebrate the end of the century. I was fortunate to be at Michael Fraser Milne’s Whisky Galore shop in Christchurch, New Zealand when he opened it after dinner with Alan Winchester. Alan had given him that bottle back when they first met at Aberlour when he was the distillery manager there, and it’s an example of the memories one can make with whisky.

The nose is classic A’Bunadh with notes of toffee, figs, dates, oak tannins, and just a hint of spice. The taste is luscious and fruity with dates, figs, and hints of clove, allspice, and oak tannins. The finish is incredibly long, dark, and luscious. An absolute whopper of a whisky, and an experience I’ll never forget! (March, 2020)
