Aberlour A'Bunadh Batch #55. Image courtesy Chivas Brothers. You don’t like single malts without age statements? In response, I would ask you to consider the cask-strength Aberlour A’Bunadh. It’s never carried an age statement in all of the years the folks at Aberlour have been making it, and yet it’s capable of kicking the ass of many lesser single malts with age statements. Each batch is slightly different, and the nose on Batch #55 has notes of toffee, Manuka honey, figs, dates, and muted spices. The taste starts off thick, chewy, and oily with a light sweetness of ginger and honey – then the spices come alive with touches of clove and white pepper that never overpower the lighter notes. The finish is long, warm, and aromatic with gently fading spices and honey sweetness. Wow! (January, 2018)
