Producing WhiskyCast has given me the opportunity to taste some really amazing whiskies, and I’m pleased to share my tasting notes with you here. You can search my entire database of tasting notes from this page, and I hope you’ll find it useful.
For years, Aberlour’s A’Bunadh has been my response to those people who say whiskies with no age statements can’t be as good as those with them. It’s a cask-strength classic – but the exclusive use of ex-Sherry casks makes it hard for some people to enjoy. This is the answer…A’Bunadh Alba is matured exclusively in ex-Bourbon barrels (Quercus Alba)!
The nose has notes of honey and caramel ice cream topping, along with brown sugar and a hint of milk chocolate. The taste is spicy with black pepper, cinnamon, and allspice complemented well by honey and caramel notes that come out as the spices start to fade into the finish. That finish is long – so long and lingering that you might want to collect the rent on behalf of your palate! Outstanding! (December, 2019)
