Aberfeldy 18 Exceptional Cask Series. Image courtesy Aberfeldy/John Dewar & Sons. This double-cask bottling from Aberfeldy’s Exceptional Cask Series has a nose full of dark fruits, toffee, figs, Christmas cake, and muted spices. The taste is intense and spicy with clove, cinnamon, and black pepper notes that fade to reveal hints of Christmas cake, toffee, and a slight oakiness. Adding water tamps down the spices while bringing out fruitier notes. The finish is long with a good balance of spices and toffee sweetness. (October, 2019)
