September 7, 2015 – As Laphroaig Distillery prepares to celebrate its 200th anniversary later this month, the Beam Suntory-owned Islay distillery is releasing another limited-edition bottling to mark the occasion. The Laphroaig 16 will be available exclusively in travel retail outlets beginning this month with a recommended retail price of €45 ($50 USD) per 350ml bottle.

In a news release, Beam Suntory Global Travel Retail marketing director Michael Cockram noted the unique place the 16-year-old has in Laphroaig’s lineup. “With this milestone comes an exceptional liquid. Laphroaig 16YO is something to savour and share with good friends and family. Matured for 16 years, the liquid is truly unique and brings something special to travel retail shelves for the fans of Laphroaig,” he said. While the distillery revived its 15-year-old expression earlier this year as part of the anniversary celebration, Laphroaig has not previously released a 16-year-old official distillery bottling.

At least two other previously hinted-at anniversary releases are expected this month closer to the annual Laphroaig Live online webcast, scheduled to take place at the distillery this year on September 24. During last year’s Laphroaig Live webcast, distillery manager John Campbell hinted that this year’s 21st anniversary of the Friends of Laphroaig affinity group would be the focus of a special bottling. In addition, the distillery has been planning to release a very limited bottling of a 32-year-old single malt in connection with the anniversary.

Editor’s note: This story was updated to clarify that the Laphroaig 16 will only be available in 350ml bottles.
