Compass Box Spice Tree
Country: Scotland
Region:
Type: Blended Malt
Bottler: Compass Box
ABV: 46%
Score: 88 Points
This is the second edition of Spice Tree, following Scotch Whisky Association objections to the original version for failing to follow “traditional practices.” John Glaser used heavily toasted French Oak barrel heads in this version, and it may be even better than the original. The nose has notes of ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon, and vanilla, with a slightly nutty touch to boot. The taste lives up to its name — chili pepper notes balanced by honey undertones, along with hints of ginger, hazelnut, and vanilla. The finish is slightly smoky with notes of honey and cinnamon.
