Moine means Peat in Gaelic, and this whisky combines Torabhaig’s natural peatiness with maturation in a combination of American oak Oloroso, Pedro Ximenez, and ex-Bourbon casks. The nose is aromatic with touches of salted caramel, a kiss of smoke, figs, honey, and a slight nuttiness. The taste is light and fruity at first, then peat smoke and touches of spice take over. Delightfully complex with figs, honey, and roasted almonds in the background. The finish is long with lingering spices and a touch of smoke. Very nice! (July, 2024)
