As a young boy, Booker Noe tagged along with his grandfather Jim Beam around the family’s distillery in Clermont, Kentucky. It’s a tradition Booker later followed with his son Fred, and one Fred has followed with his son Freddie over the years. The nose on the “Taglong Batch” has hints of spice along with sweeter notes of brown sugar, caramel candy, vanilla, and chocolate fudge. The taste has the usual Booker’s pepperiness with a strong bite of black pepper, chili powder, allspice, and a touch of cinnamon that comes out as the other spices start to fade along with hints of caramel apples and chocolate. Adding some water slows down the fading of the spices while boosting the fruity character underneath. The finish is long, well-balanced, and spicy with just a hint of oak. Very nice! (July, 2021)
