This is another complex Islay single malt from Bruichladdich’s Adam Hannett, who blended two parcels of Port Charlotte to create it. The first parcel spent six years in first-fill American Whiskey casks, then 2 years in first-fill Pauillac red wine casks from France. The second parcel was in first-fill American Whiskey casks for seven years, then went into second-fill Pauillac casks for final maturation. The nose has a good peaty character along with heather, a hint of brine, honey, and dried fruits. The taste is smoky with notes of grilled pineapple, a hint of brine, lime zest, and honey. The finish is long and smoky with a hint of spice and a citrusy tartness. (May, 2021)
