Producing WhiskyCast has given me the opportunity to taste some really amazing whiskies, and I’m pleased to share my tasting notes with you here. You can search my entire database of tasting notes from this page, and I hope you’ll find it useful.
This Aberfeldy release spent 18 years in a combination of first-fill ex-Bourbon barrels along with refill and re-charred casks, then spent the final four to five months in red wine casks from the Paulliac region of Bordeaux. The nose has notes of blackberries, black cherries, red grapes, and hints of cedar shavings and honey in the background. The taste is fruity and complex with hints of cedar shavings and pine needles underneath fruity notes of blackberries, black cherries, and plums, while touches of honey and vanilla beans add character and complexity. The finish is long and fruity with subtle hints of spices, berries, and smoked almonds. Excellent! (October, 2020)
