Maker’s Mark Wood Finishing Series 2020 Limited Edition
Country: USA
Region: Kentucky
Type: Bourbon
Bottler: Distiller
ABV: 55.4%
Score: 93 Points
The technical name for this whisky is “SE4 x PR5,” which refers to the proprietary mix of virgin American and French Oak stave types in the casks used to finish traditionally matured Maker’s Mark. The goal was to intensify notes of vanilla and caramel already present in the whisky, and it was a success. The nose has notes of vanilla beans, honey, hints of molasses and brown sugar, and muted spices. The taste has cinnamon, black pepper, and allspice notes complemented nicely by vanilla, honey, and brown sugar sweetness with a hint of butter pecan. The finish is long and sweet with hints of vanilla and oak. Excellent! (September, 2020)
