Producing WhiskyCast has given me the opportunity to taste some really amazing whiskies, and I’m pleased to share my tasting notes with you here. You can search my entire database of tasting notes from this page, and I hope you’ll find it useful.
Rogue Ales & Spirits has been collaborating with the “Iron Chef,” Masaharu Morimoto for more than 15 years on various beer projects, but this is their first whiskey. Rogue distilled its Morimoto Imperial Pilsner and Morimoto Black Obi Ale and matured them for more than two years before finishing them for 18 months in Oregon Oak casks that had been used for Rogue’s Rolling Thunder Imperial Stout. The whiskey has a dry and oaky nose with subtle spices and hints of cocoa beans, espresso, and dried apples. The taste has a nutty touch of smoked almonds along with cocoa beans, toffee, and a hint of creme brûlée. The finish is long and smoky with freshly-roasted coffee beans and dark chocolate.
