The Whisky Exchange Laphroaig 1998
Country: Scotland
Region: Islay
Type: Single alt
Bottler: Speciality Drinks/The Whisky Exchange
ABV: 54.4%
Score: 93 Points
Cask #117 was originally filled in 1998 and spent the final nine years in an ex-Sherry hogshead cask, giving it a nice balance between the traditional Laphroaig medicinal character and sweetness. The nose is smoky, medicinal, and phenolic with hints of heather and dried flowers, toasted vanilla, and a hint of black tea. The taste has a thick, syrupy mouthfeel with a slow onset of peat and a subtle pepperiness balanced by caramel ice cream topping, toasted vanilla, and honey. The finish is long and smoky with caramel candy sweetness underneath. Excellent! (May, 2020)
