Balcones Mirador
Country: USA
Region: Texas
Type: Single Malt
Bottler: Distiller
ABV: 54.8%
Score: 93 Points
Mirador is different from the other Balcones single malt whiskies in that it’s matured completely in used oak barrels instead of new ones, making it closer to a Scotch-style whisky in aroma and taste. The nose is aromatic, malty, and sweet with butterscotch, tree fruits, honeysuckle, and brown sugar. The taste is tart with green apples and lemon zest, along with herbal touches of basil and fennel, a slight nuttiness, and muted spices in the background. The finish is long with a citrusy tartness balanced by dried fruits, sandalwood, and honeysuckle. Excellent! (April, 2020)
